Facility Management and Utility / Energy Management companies often have the requirement to know precisley where the objects shown on the pictures in their Open Text Content Server are located.

geoLinks is developed as an add-on module of imageLinks to provide the functionality of combining imageLinks objects (jpg, tif and psd) with geographical information (GPS data) and to show them either on Google Earth or/and on MS Virtual Earth.

Please be aware that the usage of Google Earth is based on additional license costs and will be distributed through SAW. The usage of Microsoft Virtual Earth is free of charge.

Whenever GPS information is stored together with the image you will see this icon  attached to the image in an imageLinks Media Collection.

By clicking on the icon the predefined software package (Google Earth or Microsoftt Virtual Earth will be started and the image is shown on the map. If you have selected more than one image you will receive a best fit of all images on one map. This function is called (environs search).

Position the object on the map and store

The object will be positioned on the map by using GPS Information. Either a modern digital camera already provides this information within the Exif metadata together with the image or you can easily add the information within geoLinks.

This is very helpful for already existing pictures or pictures who are coming from any other source than a modern camera with GPS information.

All you need to do Is position the image on the map and store the underlying GPS information by just clicking the “disk icon”.

In addtion to this way you can use graphic programs like Adobe Photoshop, to store and edit GPS information to your images. In this case you need to know the precise GPS data to enter them as a number value.
